Empowering those impacted by criminal justice system

Soffiyah Elijah, executive director and founder of Alliance of Families for Justice, spoke at the NABJ/NAHJ 2016 convention and was interviewed after her dynamic presentation during the #InclusiveAmerica learning lab on Aug. 3

Elijah said her new model of activism is a “template of for the country” for criminal justice reform. In 2017, the fledgling organization will march to Attica to elevate the need to close the infamous prison known most for its abusive practices.

Elijah noted that President Barack Obama is the first sitting president to visit a prison. His policies of clemencies and commutations are a vital step in the ongoing effort to confront unjust and racially motivated sentences.
